A History of Bayern Munich's Oktoberfest Kits
Few football clubs are as closely connected to their home city as Bayern Munich. And in Munich, few traditions are bigger than Oktoberfest.
So it was only natural that the two would eventually come together in the world of football shirts.
Over the years, Bayern have produced some truly memorable jerseys inspired by Bavarian culture, lederhosen, traditional embroidery, Alpine flowers and the famous Wiesn. What started with a Bavarian-inspired away shirt eventually became an annual tradition that fans eagerly anticipate every year.
Let's take a look at the history of Bayern Munich's Oktoberfest kits and how the designs have evolved.
2013/14 – The Lederhosen-Inspired Beginning
Before Bayern had an official annual Oktoberfest jersey, there was the unforgettable 2013/14 away kit.
While it wasn't officially released as a dedicated Oktoberfest shirt, its design clearly celebrated Bavarian culture. The white jersey was paired with brown shorts inspired by traditional lederhosen, creating a look that was very different from Bayern's usual football kits.
The club itself described the combination as reflecting the traditional Bavarian look of lederhosen.
Bastian Schweinsteiger and his teammates wore the kit during a remarkable period for the club. Bayern had just completed a historic treble and went on to dominate the Bundesliga again under Pep Guardiola.
This jersey is now regarded as an important part of the story of Bayern's Oktoberfest kits.

2021/22 – The First Official Oktoberfest Kit
It took eight years for Bayern to make the Oktoberfest connection official.
In 2021, adidas and Bayern released their first dedicated Oktoberfest/Wiesn kit.
The design featured a deep green shirt, black shorts and matching green socks. One of the most distinctive details was the use of Edelweiss flowers, including decorative elements around the club crest and the back of the neck.
The inspiration came directly from traditional Bavarian clothing and culture.
There was one unusual detail about this release: Oktoberfest itself was cancelled in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nevertheless, Bayern wore the shirt in one competitive match — and it couldn't have gone much better. The team demolished VfL Bochum 7–0 at the Allianz Arena while wearing the special jersey.
2022/23 – Dark Red and Gold
The popularity of the first official Wiesn shirt convinced Bayern and adidas to make Oktoberfest kits an annual tradition.
The 2022/23 Oktoberfest jersey took a completely different direction.
This time, the shirt was predominantly dark red, with luxurious gold details across the design. The Bayern crest, adidas branding, sleeve accents and other details used gold, giving the jersey a premium appearance.
The Edelweiss motif returned, maintaining the connection with traditional Bavarian clothing.
And once again, the shirt proved to be a lucky charm.
Bayern wore it against Bayer Leverkusen and produced a dominant 4–0 victory.

2023/24 – The Alpine Flower Shirt
The 2023/24 edition may be one of the most visually distinctive Oktoberfest shirts Bayern have ever released.
Instead of dark colors, adidas opted for a light lime/olive green base covered with illustrations of mountain flowers.
The design was inspired by the meadows associated with the Oktoberfest — fittingly, Wiesn is commonly used as a name for the festival and literally refers to a meadow or field.
The hand-drawn Alpine flower artwork gave the shirt a much more fashionable and lifestyle-oriented appearance.
It was also the first Bayern Oktoberfest jersey associated with Harry Kane, who had joined the club during the summer of 2023.
Bayern wore the shirt against Bayer Leverkusen in a thrilling 2–2 draw, before Kane later celebrated Oktoberfest in spectacular fashion by scoring a hat-trick against Bochum in another 7–0 victory.
2024/25 – A Modern Take on Traditional Bavaria
For 2024/25, Bayern returned to a more traditional aesthetic.
The Oktoberfest shirt featured a grey/silver-inspired color scheme, with details designed to evoke the appearance of classic Bavarian clothing.
One of the biggest developments wasn't just the shirt itself. Bayern expanded the Oktoberfest concept into a broader Wiesn collection, creating additional clothing for supporters.
The shirt also introduced a dedicated Bayern Oktoberfest emblem, making the connection between the club and the festival even more obvious.
Bayern wore the kit against Bayer Leverkusen on 28 September 2024. The match finished 1–1 despite Bayern dominating much of the game.
2025/26 – 125 Years of Bayern Meets Oktoberfest
The 2025/26 Oktoberfest shirt was particularly special because Bayern were celebrating their 125th anniversary, while Oktoberfest was celebrating its 190th edition.
The result was one of the most elegant Wiesn designs yet.
The shirt used an off-white base, with green embroidered sleeves and details inspired by Bayern's 125th-anniversary jersey.
It also featured a specially designed Oktoberfest crest and the adidas Originals Trefoil logo.
Bayern took the concept even further by producing a limited collector's box containing the complete shirt, shorts and socks, with 1,900 boxes produced.
2026/27 – The Oktoberfest Tradition Continues
The Oktoberfest tradition isn't slowing down.
The Bayern Munich 26/27 Oktoberfest kit has already attracted huge attention, with leaked images showing a much more experimental design compared with recent Wiesn shirts.
The new jersey moves away from the understated look of the 2025 edition and embraces a black base with a bold, colorful graphic pattern.
It's another example of how Bayern's Oktoberfest jerseys have evolved from traditional Bavarian-inspired football shirts into pieces that can work just as well as streetwear.
With each new edition, adidas seems willing to experiment while keeping the connection to Munich and Bavarian culture.
What Makes Bayern's Oktoberfest Kits So Special?
The appeal of Bayern's Wiesn shirts goes beyond football.
1. They Represent Munich
Oktoberfest is one of Munich's biggest cultural traditions, and Bayern are arguably the city's most recognizable football institution.
Combining the two creates something that feels uniquely Bavarian.
2. Every Year Looks Different
One of the best things about the collection is that Bayern don't simply repeat the same design.
We've seen:
-
White and brown lederhosen-inspired styling
-
Green and Edelweiss
-
Dark red and gold
-
Alpine flowers
-
Grey and traditional Bavarian influences
-
Off-white and anniversary details
-
Bold modern graphics
That variety makes every new release interesting.
3. They're Perfect for Football Fashion
Oktoberfest jerseys aren't necessarily designed only for matchday.
Their unique patterns, colors and cultural references make them particularly popular with football-shirt collectors and streetwear fans.
A Bayern Wiesn shirt can easily be worn with jeans, cargos, sneakers or a jacket — making it part of a wider football-fashion trend.
From Lederhosen to Streetwear
Looking back at the history of Bayern Munich's Oktoberfest kits, the evolution is fascinating.
The 2013/14 away shirt introduced a clear lederhosen-inspired Bavarian aesthetic. Eight years later, Bayern officially embraced the Oktoberfest concept with the 2021/22 special edition.
Since then, the club has effectively turned the Wiesn jersey into an annual tradition.
And the designs have become increasingly adventurous.
That's what makes Bayern's Oktoberfest shirts so collectible: you never quite know what the next one will look like.
Which Bayern Oktoberfest Kit Is Your Favourite?
From Schweinsteiger's lederhosen-inspired era to Harry Kane's floral shirt and the modern 2025 anniversary design, Bayern's Oktoberfest jerseys have created a fascinating mini-history within the club's wider kit collection.
For collectors, they're more than just alternative football shirts.
They're a celebration of Bayern Munich, Munich, Bavarian culture and one of the world's most famous festivals.
And with the 2026/27 Oktoberfest kit already generating huge interest, the story of Bayern's Wiesn jerseys is clearly far from over.
